noun \ˈsü-pər-kət\ — A fast-paced montage of short video clips that obsessively isolates a single element from its source, usually a word, phrase, or cliche from film and TV. Supercut.org collects every known example of the video remix meme.
“Supercuts” are obsessive-compulsive montages of video clips, meticulously isolating every instance of a single item, usually cliches, phrases, and other tropes.
I coined the term in a blog entry on Waxy.org in April 2008, and the name stuck. Since then, the term’s appeared on This American Life, the New York Times, Wired, Time, and many more.
Supercut.org is a site dedicated to documenting the cultural phenomenon in a clean, browsable index that anyone can contribute to.
Supercut.org was originally created by Andy Baio and Michael Bell-Smith in 24 hours, as part of Rhizome’s Seven on Seven event in May 2011. Building on top of Andy’s collection, Michael suggested building a randomized supercut composed entirely of supercuts. The result was the SuperSupercut, permanently archived on this site.
Andy redesigned Supercut.org in November 2011, to collect the growing archive of all known supercuts. Mostly, he was just tired of updating his blog entry.
The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours.
On Friday night, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will show at a local theater, usually in the next week.In 2012, over 50,000 filmmakers will make almost 4,000 films in 120 cities on 6 continents around the world. Over the 11 years of 48 Hour Film Project over 19,000 films have been made by 278,000 people.
Our HistoryThe 48 Hour Film Project’s mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its festival/competition, the Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers—emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on “doing” instead of “talking.”
Back in May 2001, Mark Ruppert came up with a crazy idea: to try to make a film in 48 hours. He quickly enlisted his filmmaking partner, Liz Langston, and several other DC filmmakers to form their own teams and join him in this experiment. The big question back then was: “Would films made in only 48 hours even be watchable?”
The answer was a resounding yes, and now ten years later and with more than 400 competitions having taken place around the world, it is amazing to consider the success of the Project. 2012 marks the 11th time we’ve visited Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York and Austin, and the 13th time for DC.Our smallest team has consisted of one person who sets up the camera then runs around to be “on-camera”. Our largest team to date was a team from Albuquerque with 116 people and 30 horses! We’ve had about 19,000 teams in the Project over the years, and at 13 people per team, that translates to roughly 278,000 people who have answered the call to come on out and make a movie.

Update 01/10/12 I didn’t make it. I’m still working on it. Impossible because of “need for sleep”. I felt asleep with laptop on me, trying to convert some material 🙂 total exhausting… But still working on it, will be funny 😀
Update 02/10/12 FINISHED! AFTER 100 HOURS! IT MAKES SENSE A BIT (I HOPE)… but… definitely it is impossible for just ONE person to make the movie in 48 hours.
This version I made will be seen in cinema Lucerna, on 05/10/2012 at 18:00 . But…I am not happy, because I think the movie is not good… I see so many faults in it, and so many ways to do it better…
Online version MUST be edited more… oh my god I I have the feeling that it is completely SHIT in every kind of way… 🙁 uh…but
I feel so happy for writing the script, for joining the competition. But I feel realy sad about the think…that…I was thinking I can realy make it alone in 48 hours. I was kinda thinking… Kim Ki Duk made also a movie only on his own…. full length…and this is only five minutes, just like some business video I make for work… but… first I am NOT as experienced like Kim Ki Duk YET (and I have to work my ass out to be half like him…) … (thinking about how we met him on Karlovy Vary festival, and I was sitting next to him …) and second – HE made it in 3 years! KIM KI DUK! Y_E_A_R_S_!!! And I wanted to create piece of ART in 48 hours???
…just one small…small piece, people would think… oh my, it is nice and I will think about it….
… why it didnt work the way I pictured it?
First I need a good actrice and actor. From theatre, young students possibly. Character faces. Second I need a great camera and cameraman. Third I need to make a storyboard – a little. But maybe with a great cameraman like Jan J.Filip I can do it without storyboard. God knows if he would want to help me.
Fourth I need a sound (operator? director?) for it, because otherwise, it is IMPOSSIBLE do it on my own… (so AMATEUR look :-/ )
Fifth I need two editors (edit guys?) …one will start editing as soon as we finish the first scene…
….
My god my movie is SO AMATEUR! it is horrible. people willl hate it, it is a great shame. ….younger people can do better stuffs. but did they try to say somethink bigger with the movie? Maybe… … I tried… I failed? …
I LEARNED A LOT NEW… FOR THE MOST I REALIZED, I CAN DO IT… BUT I THINK I CAN DO BETTER… It is something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT try to build story, and the most – to transport it to people… and I dont think I made it… definitelly NOT in this version…and for more the camera is HORRIBLE… so sad… it is the WORST camera I had in my movie, probably…yes, there are some nice shoots from the morning, but they are also bad quality, and too short. And the worst is that ugly shoots from club are there for a long time… MUST definitely change this before put it online.
Now the whole movie looks like made from 8 years old child…
But on the other hand, I learned a lot from this experience. And I am happy it will be screened in theatre Lucerna. It is shit, but I tried for a bit of “spirit” in it 😀 lol… damned, for a while, I was realy sure I can make it great… but without help of others professionals it is impossible… I cant act, take great camera, direct it, record sound and cut it after this. Sure not if the genre is fantasy… but, whatever, I dont regret it …maybe… I hope that Friday when everybody will see it, they will think I am crazy or what… but I dont have time for going there…but…shame… ? maybe…no so what… I did what I did.. it is maybe worse camera than my last movie, but… it was DOCUMENTARY… and this is all my story, MY fiction…I felt like I HAD to do it… like it MUST happens… so I did the best I can on my own…
I DONT CARE ITS ALRIGHT I DONT CARE ITS ALRIGHT HEY HEY YEY HEY…
whatever..if everybody in the cinema will see my ugly movie, and think about me that I am looser, and tell it to everybody… I think… KEEP TALKING BITCH YOU MAKE ME FUCKIN FAMOUS :-F dont care about what other people say… dont take it to HARD ( however strong words I write here, I always take it hard…everythink…) but thats the modern – no care – mask.
the ugly movie – up to you to consider if it is good or not…
